INTRODUCTION
Cancer can affect various tissues in the body, causing a range of signs and
symptoms, such as weight loss, fatigue, skin changes and a persistent cough.
Anyone who experiences persistent or worrisome symptoms should consult a
doctor.
DEFINITION
Lung Cancer begins in the lungs and may spread to lymph nodes or other organs
in the body, such as the brain. Cancer from other organs also may spread to the
lungs. When cancer cells spread from one organ to another, they are called
“metastases”.
TYPES OF LUNG CANCER
Lung cancers are usually grouped into two main types called small cell and non-
small cell. These types of lung cancer grow differently and are treated
differently. Non-small cell lung cancer is more common than small cell lung
cancer.
SYMPTOMS OF LUNG CANCER
When lung cancer does cause signs in its early stages, they may vary from
person to person but commonly include:
A new cough that is persistent or worsens, or a change in an existing chronic cough
Cough that produces blood
Bone pain
Swelling of the face, arms or neck
Headaches, dizziness or limbs that become weak or numb
Lumps in the neck or collarbone region
TREATMENT OPTIONS
Chemotherapy: This therapy to treat lung cancer is generally used before
surgery or radiation to target cancer cells that may survived the
treatment, and to treat locally advanced or metastatic disease.
Immunotherapy: Certain immunotherapy drugs may be used alone or in
combination with other therapies to treat specific types of lung cancer.

tumors in the body.

CONCLUSION
Depending on the stage of the lung cancer, the aims of treatment may be for
cure. Nowadays there are a large number of hospitals and organisations that
journey with the cancer patients to provide support and personalised care, as
they strive to share a little hope with every person encountered.
